THE MEANING OF BRUCE MAU’S MANIFESTO

The “Incomplete Manifesto for Growth” was written in 1998. "It was my first attempt to answer the question: How does one sustain a creative life? Thought about what it would take to go beyond the flash-in-the-pan of early success and sustain a lifelong practice. I reflected on my own patterns of living and working, and asked myself: What is really valuable here? How might these patterns be helpful to others? Can we learn from the unusual studio culture that we have created? I understood that the task of designers is less to inform people than to move them.  Our role is to inspire."
A bilingual editorial object that took Bruce Mau’s manifesto as its starting point. Bearing in mind that the manifesto in question is a set of teachings for personal growth, the object created reflects this journey in a self-explanatory way, using an interactive and creative design, so that the reader himself can unravel its stages. To this end, techniques such as revealing hidden information through light and erasable ink, cutting and folding pages, mirror pages and overlapping with acetate sheets were used. The English text is paginated in the usual way (main language) and the Portuguese text is turned upside down.
